World Malaria Day: Supporting Nets for Life
On April 22, Sustenance Group’s Kristi York Wooten, along with Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church Deacon Chris Lemley, presented information about Episcopal Relief and Development‘s involvement with Nets for Life, an anti-malaria campaign that provides mosquito nets and education programs in 17 countries in Africa. As part of the Diocese of Atlanta’s commitment to raising money for Nets for Life in 2012, Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church organized an information hour about malaria, the history of malaria in Georgia, and why it’s important to work to distribute nets and halt malaria prevalence in other parts of the world. We used this propoganda video from the 1940s to demonstrate how malaria prevalence was once a huge problem in the Southeastern U.S.
