Social Entrepreneur Working in Guatemala Partners with Former Sudanese Child Soldier to Promote World Peace
Atlanta, GA (July 6, 2012) Atlanta Social Innovator Stephanie Jolluck recently partnered with London based Emmanuel Jal, a former Sudanese child soldier turned International musician, peace activist, writer, speaker, and actor. She is creating a line of beaded jewelry with her artisans in Guatemala with Jal’s “We Want Peace” logo to spread his message of peace for Sudan and in the world. The line of WWP beaded accessories will be sold globally online, at WWP events, and Emmanuel Jal concerts and performances. “I love that Coleccion Luna can be used as a vehicle to create positive social change not only in Guatemala, but across the entire world. This line of beaded jewelry will empower Indigenous women who handcraft the line, help build schools and promote education in Sudan, and spread a message of global peace. The connection is tragically beautiful as Guatemala also recently experienced a genocide and the artisans are hoping to help stop the one in Sudan through their art.” Coleccion Luna focuses on women’s empowerment, alleviating poverty, spreading peace, preserving tradition, sustainability, and promoting cultural diversity and understanding. For the past thirteen years Jolluck has travelled to Guatemala to work directly with the Mayan Indians on a line of beaded jewelry, as well as textiles created with PURE LOVE from their reclaimed Indigenous clothing using Fair Trade practices.
This work and philosophy are a perfect fit with Emmanuel Jal whose various charities aim to create peace by building schools and by raising awareness. Emmanuel, who was a war child, is now a world renowned activist, peace soldier and musician.
