Heifer International Celebrates 70th Anniversary
Heifer International celebrated 70 years of family farming at the Beyond Hunger event at the Carter Center in Atlanta on October 4. Heifer CEO Pierre Ferrari spoke with donors and longtime volunteers, and Kate Herndon, who coordinates Heifer's community programs, honored four volunteers with an award for their service. Dr. Steve Robinson, President of the Southern Association of Independent Schools, talked about the importance of schools in Heifer's model to support sustainable agriculture and family farming. He then introduced keynore speaker Elizabeth Bintliff, who serves as Heifer's Vice President of Africa Programs. She gave a moving speech about empowerement focused on several women for whom Heifer has helped create economic opportunities in Africa.
